You’re going to be coming to the United States soon to live and work in Florida. However, you know that before you land on U.S. soil, you need to procure an immigrant visa. By finding out more information on this type of visa, you can be ready for when the time comes to travel.
What Is an Immigrant Visa?
An immigrant visa is for a foreign national who wants to work and live permanently in the U.S. Typically, a family member or an employer in the U.S. will sponsor the foreign national’s visa. They will need to file an application with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). The U.S. government will forward the application to the U.S. Consulate or Embassy overseas in the applicant’s country, and then they will be issued a visa through the consulate or embassy if they are accepted.
How Long the Process Takes
It takes anywhere from 30 to 60 days to transfer an application from USCIS to the embassy or consulate. If you’ve applied, you should wait a minimum of 60 days from the time you received approval before calling to confirm that they received your application. However, sometimes, processing of the visa can take up to six months. It is advised that you apply for your immigrant visa as soon as you know you need it because there could always be delays with your application. You don’t want to risk running into any problems, especially if you need to be at work in Florida on a certain date.
