In September 2025, the Trump administration issued an executive order to allow individuals or corporations to gain immigrant visas by contributing $1 million dollars to the United States government. Corporations can also submit $2 million to sponsor individuals. The program officially went live on December 10, 2025, and during the initial phase, the government plans to issue up to 80,000 Trump Gold Cards to successful applicants.
Through this program, applicants will “gift” the money to the U.S. Treasury, and according to the White House, the contributions will be used for investment in U.S. commerce and industry.
The Gold Card offers qualifying high-net-worth foreign nationals an expedited pathway to lawful permanent resident status. It is expected to be a faster alternative to the EB-5 process, which also requires a substantial at-risk investment of either $800,000 or $1,050,000 in commercial projects or Targeted Employment Areas. Foreign nationals can also pursue residency through the standard EB-1 and EB-2 petitions without investing funds, but they must possess extraordinary ability in one of the designated fields (EB-1) or be a professional with an advanced degree or who holds exceptional ability in business, or the sciences or arts (EB2).
The Trump Gold Card program grants eligibility under the EB-1 or EB-2 categories. Applicants must file Form I-140G, Immigrant Petition for the Gold Card Program, and submit the $1 million gift, while corporations will need to submit $2 million for each employee they would like to sponsor. The administration also created a Platinum Card option of $5 million, which would grant holders up to 270 tax-free days annually while they are in the United States.
To be approved for the Trump Gold Card, applicants must still meet the following qualifications:
Spouses and unmarried children under age 21 will also be required to pay $1 million as well as a $15,000 fee each. You and your family members will also be subject to visa availability based on your country of origin.
Having the required funds does not guarantee that you will be approved for the Trump Gold Card program. You will still need to meet the required qualifications and have all the necessary documents to support your application. If you are ready to take the next step toward permanent residency, US-ILC can review your qualifications and guide you through the complex application process for obtaining a Trump Gold Card.
