I greatly appreciate the broad variety of functions my work entails at US-ILC. It allows me to continually expand my knowledge base rather than being limited by repetition. Each day, I am exposed to new tasks in the legal environment. When I joined US-ILC, I was seeking to build on my experience in the legal field and take on a more challenging role. This position gave me the ideal opportunity to do so, making it the perfect choice.
I began my career as a legal assistant three years ago, initially working for two immigration law firms. At that time, my duties were limited to specific tasks on a smaller scale. Before transitioning to law, I was a teacher for six years. This position has given me the opportunity to tackle new responsibilities within the legal field. My professional experience and training, including as a teacher, helped to prepare me for my current role.
Now, I am a legal executive assistant within US-ILCโs Employment Department. My role mainly entails supporting attorneys and overseeing their schedules, but I have also expanded into paralegal duties. Additionally, I assist attorneys with preparing motions, collect the required case documents, communicate with clients in English and Spanish regarding their forms, and assemble document packages for filing with USCIS.
Through this role, I have gained a more in-depth understanding of certain immigration processes. The position also demands careful attention to detail and carries a higher level of responsibility, as I contribute to complex cases that demand deep focus and accuracy. In this field, mistakes can have serious consequences. Therefore, this experience has helped me develop a clearer understanding of how to approach each task.
I balance my professional life with my role as a mother to a toddler daughter. For my mental and physical well-being, I love swimming twice a week, and I treat it as a sport. I have been an avid swimmer since age 15, at which time I used to compete. I now swim primarily for my health and to reduce stress. I also enjoy traveling and my husband and I plan to travel to Japan next year, which is an important goal for us. We share a mutual interest in Japanese culture and food, and I believe his interest has contributed to our plans to travel there together.
