US-ILC REPRESENTS IN ALL 50 STATES

Betssy Medina

Duty Paralegal

At US-ILC, I have found a place where dedication, teamwork, and compassion come together to create a truly inspiring environment. The firm’s culture encourages collaboration and professionalism, and I take great pride in being part of a team that shares the same passion for helping others. Every day reminds me that the work we do changes lives, and that sense of purpose keeps me motivated and grounded.

I have worked in the immigration field since 2014. Prior to this, I was employed as a bank teller, which provided me with valuable experience in client interaction and customer service. I was first introduced to immigration law through one of my banking clients, and the field immediately captured my interest. As the child of immigrant parents, I had already witnessed elements of the immigration process firsthand while observing my father petition for my mother. This gave me basic grounding in the complexities involved in immigration processes.

I started as a receptionist at the first firm and quickly broadened my responsibilities to include paralegal tasks. This exposure led me to transition into a legal support role, where I initially managed routine cases and gradually advanced to more complex matters as a legal assistant. Over time, my work expanded to include general waivers, Adjustment of Status applications, employment authorization filings, asylum cases, and military parole requests.

I joined US-ILC in pursuit of a new opportunity. I was seeking a position that would offer professional growth, and that would better accommodate my family circumstances. US-ILC presented the ideal option, and I now have the balance I need. Since joining US-ILC’s Client Affairs department as a Duty Paralegal, I have mostly concentrated on general immigration matters. I communicate with clients in both Spanish and English, responding to their inquiries and providing updates on their case statuses on a daily basis. Everything I have learned throughout my career has prepared me to address their questions knowledgeably and with confidence.

Outside of work, I enjoy arts and crafts with my three children, as well as painting, beach outings, and bowling on weekends. My family and I are avid sports fans, and we particularly take pleasure in watching baseball and basketball. Our favorite teams are the Houston Rockets and the Houston Astros. I also appreciate reading about topics that promote health and personal growth, and I regularly follow immigration news. Maintaining discipline and a structured schedule helps me to keep both my professional and personal life balanced. My personal motto is balance is key!
